Ashes turned into Idol moment

IT seems appropriate that Cricket Australia has turned naming the team for the first Ashes Test into an Idol-type selection circus.

Appropriate that there will be audience participation on the steps of the Sydney Opera House on Monday and live crosses to a morning show somewhere with plenty of sponsor slots and razzamatazz.

Appropriate that good sense has been discarded and the team will be named before fitness or form is established.

It doesn’t matter that there is an Australia A game, another round of Shield matches and a host of injuries to be reported back on.

Hell no, this is all about style not substance.

It’s about marketing. Commerce not cricket.
