A bold new England side is poised to defy history by bowling first to Australia if they win the toss for the Ashes series opener at the Gabba.

If there is even a hint of moisture in the Gabba wicket today – or some overcast skies – former Ashes-winning England captain Michael Vaughan has no doubt the English will reprise Nasser Hussain‘s failed Ashes blueprint of 2002-03 if they win the toss.

Hussain is still ridiculed for bowling first at the Gabba that season and watching as Australia cantered to stumps at 2-364.
