There were clouds over Aussie selection, but not over their performance at the Gabba

Despite all the low scores at the Gabba in State cricket, the reports of a spicy seaming green top and suggestions that the captains may even have been thinking of bowling first to exploit early swing, the pitch itself turned out to be somewhat lacklustre. Peter Siddle’s bowling performance however, was far from lacklustre. The pitch was slow, low and ice-rink flat and the sun was out early. After Siddle’s heartbreaking hat-trick, England were left wondering if they even wanted to bat at all, regardless of whether it was first or second.
