Johnson fails to live up to his own hype

Before the start of the series James Anderson’s name in Australian newspapers was never far away from his bowling average the last time England toured here four years ago (82.60).

Mitchell Johnson was in a similar position of doubt following a miserable tour to England last summer.

Both made pre-series vows that this time it would be different.

But whereas Anderson gained respect on Saturday with the type of disciplined bowling we expect from Australians, Johnson had a troubled time at the Gabba on Sunday.
