Ponting overruled on Johnson

Ricky Ponting‘s opinion does not seem to count quite so much anymore.

In his time as Australian captain, Ponting has wielded considerable influence over the choices of the national selectors, and as recently as the first Ashes Test his obvious regard for the left-arm spin of Xavier Doherty played a role in the omission of Nathan Hauritz.

But in Adelaide Mitchell Johnson has been left out of the Test team for the second Ashes Test, and Ponting gave his own subtle indications that it was not the decision he may have made.

“Sometimes it doesn’t matter what I think,” said Ponting.
