Australia have an almighty fight on their hands to avoid defeat in the second Ashes Test after England completed a dominant first two days at Adelaide Oval.

England will resume at 2-317 on Sunday in reply to an inadequate 245 with the prolific Alastair Cook (132no) in partnership with the destructive Kevin Pietersen (85no).

With the pitch expected to be ideal for batting on another hot day, Australian gloveman Brad Haddin did not deny the weakness of Australia’s position.
