Heat on Australia’s faltering Ashes campaign

Englands rich harvest of Ashes runs shows no sign of abating as Australia’s prospects of bringing the urn home slowly slip away.

Alastair Cook’s domination of the series has continued as England sets itself to bat Australia out of the Test when play resumes on day three at the Adelaide Oval.

At stumps on day two England is 2-317, with Cook on 136 (246 balls, 17 fours) and Kevin Pietersen 85 (141 balls, 14 fours), to lead by 72 runs.

Cook brought up his second hundred of the series when he cut Xavier Doherty to the point boundary 25 minutes after tea.

After being derided as the weak link in England’s batting, Cook now has scores of 67, 235 not out and 136 not out for a total of 438 runs at the same average.
