Chris Tremlett has been rewarded for his role in England’s victorious Ashes campaign, with the ECB offering him an incremental contract for the remainder of the 2011 season.

Though Tremlett missed out on selection for the forthcoming World Cup, he has played in each of England’s first three ODIs in Australia, having starred with the ball in the final three Tests of the Ashes at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

He claimed 17 wickets at 23.35 in those matches having come into the team as a replacement for Stuart Broad, and after announcing himself with 5 for 87 in the first innings at Perth, it was he who claimed the honour of the series-sealing wicket, when he bowled Michael Beer off the inside-edge at Sydney.

Injured Graeme Swann to miss England ODIs in Australia

Graeme Swann is out of the one-day series with Australia with a back injury but is expected to be fit for the start of the World Cup next month.

Swann will fly home from the Australia tour on Wednesday because of a lower back strain.

England, who trail 3-0 in the series, had already been forced to cope without Swann for two matches after the 31-year-old suffered a bruised kneecap.

“It’s frustrating but the priority for me now is the World Cup,” said Swann.

Prior replaces Davies for England

Matt Prior has replaced wicketkeeper Steven Davies in an otherwise predictable 15-man squad named by England for the Cricket World Cup.

In-form Prior is set to partner skipper Andrew Strauss at the top of the batting order and will now join the current one-day squad in Australia.

All-rounder Stuart Broad returns from injury while Kent bowler James Tredwell has been selected as a third spinner.

Seamer Chris Woakes misses out despite shining on his recent Twenty20 debut.

Woakes slots straight in to England’s winning unit

Chris Woakes

Paul Collingwood, the England captain, had never seen Chris Woakes bat before his match-winning innings against Australia in the opening Twenty20 and went on the advice of coach Andy Flower as to which position the debutant should take. It proved another perfect decision from Flower as Woakes hit an unbeaten 19 from No. 9 to secure a one-wicket victory at Adelaide.

Woakes, 21, earned his chance in the Twenty20 and one-day squads after Stuart Broad‘s stomach injury picked up during the second Ashes Test ruled him out of action until at least the World Cup. It wasn’t expected that Woakes would play a major role but he was given an outing against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra then preferred to Chris Tremlett in the Twenty20 side. Now he could yet be making a late bid for World Cup selection.

Cameron White has won his first toss as Australia’s Twenty20 captain and chose to bat at Adelaide. Aaron Finch, the Victoria batsman, will make his debut for Australia and Chris Woakes, the Warwickshire seamer, gets his first cap for England while Ian Bell returns for his first Twenty20 since 2008.

Woakes, who replaced the injured Stuart Broad in the England squad, made his senior debut against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Monday and claimed 2 for 63 from nine overs. He has been preferred to Chris Tremlett with Michael Lumb, the specialist Twenty20 opener, is also on the sidelines.
